Knowledge Quest

Dear Bloggie,

Ahhhh…holidays! It is the Raya Holydays, bloggie. Just perfect for me to continue on my quest for knowledge. I have created a tinker page (see new menu item at the menu bar?)  to hold my experiments…unless I mess around with the file called functions.php or any file ending with php, which if any my tinkering goes wrong, I will crash the entire site by spewing out cryptic codes…not even a nice 404. Oh Well! That's the price to pay for tinkering.

Let's see, I have finally figured out how to get the yoxview jquery script working, but not as I have intended. I have yet to figure out how to actually load it using wp_enqueue_script() so that I don't have to bother remembering loading it via <script> tags.

On a side note, I have also updated my aifontriji with the latest firmware iOS4.1. Hopefully this will fix the sluggish performance and the need to reboot once, twice, sometimes 3x a day! Oh yah, and also JB dev peeps, please release the ability for me to do so soon. I need the ability to change my SMS alert tone! :smile:

Testing Wordbooker

I am testing this WordPress plugin called Wordbooker which will link my bloggie to FB whenever I post something. The plugin allows me to have the FB like button, which I see on quite a lot of websites lately to appear for each of my blog entries. This plugin will also "bring" the comments from FB to my blog and vice-versa.

Let's give this a spin and see how whether it works or not…

Stylo Mylo’ing My Blog

Dear Bloggie & Webbie,

I have been learning a lot about WordPress, CSS, HTML and PHP lately. It has been both rewarding as well as……

:mad: Why? Because I wanted to make you both look stylo mylo-mah! So, I had to let the geek, technology dabbler in me come out. It is also the 7-th month-mah following the Chinese calendar. Well, you can blame it on WORK!!!…Yes, ever since I went back to Operations @ work, I had time to dabble in technology again. :smile:

What? Customizing your WordPress Theme … All you need is some basic programming knowledge and

First is the overall style, and colour which was too WHITE! I've changed to a darker one, hopefully easier on the eyes. Actually I needed the darker tone to show-case my photos :smile: This is done through what WP 3.0 called Child Theme-ing, to prevent my changes from getting wiped if there's an update or upgrade. Comments Section…This is a tricky one since it involves HTML, PHP and CSS working together, and to top it all off, need to understand that file called functions.php. Oh Boy! I spent quite a lot of time fumbling my way around through trial-and-error. Finally I stumbled on this tutorial, DIW article.

Then I added that cool website/blog/url/bookmark icon called FAVICON, which is a little diver for my website. I followed this tutorial from WP Recipes.

Search Bar…I followed this tutorial called Styling Search Forms with CSS.

Plugins & Widgets

I have just found this plugin called Ozh Admin Drop Down Menu. When I am logged in to my WP Admin page, it gives me more screen real-estate by moving the default admin menu/bar to the top as a slim profile drop down bar. I ♥ it!

I am still looking for a nice social media plugin with widgets to integrate with Facebook…Ya, ya, I can't avoid it. It's futile. These days lotsa people are facebooking-mad. FB is so so popular with the Y2K generation. So…if you know of a good plugin/widget to integrate with Facebook, share with me in the comments section.

WordPress 3.0.1

Checked my WP Dashboard today. There's an update which fixes some 55 minor problems to WP. I have applied the new WordPress 3.0.1 update. This will be a good test now for my modifications done through the WP child theme method.

Will my changes stick or revert back to the original TwentyTen Theme?

Hooray! My theme modifications via the WordPress Child Theme remain unchanged. Yaaay!

MIDE 2010

MIDE 2010 Logo Woo Hoo! The Malaysian International Dive Expo is at the end of this month, July 30 – Aug 1 2010 at the PWTC in KL. I have attended this expo once…Exciting! It is like the PC Fair, only this time it is about anything and everything about Scuba Diving. It is also the time for meet & greet community-like feeling. The last time I was there, I've subscribed to the Asian Diver magazine and was qualified for the lucky draw at the end of the expo. Damn! If I knew I was going to be so lucky, I would have stayed back to claim the prize…which was an expensive watch. Kanasai! I didn't stay back, oh well, hopefully this year, my lucky star will shine brightly too.

The last trip, I bought myself a tray and arm for my underwater photography. This trip I'm going to check out the strobes! Inon D2000 or Sea & Sea YS-110α(Black). I am leaning towards the Sea & Sea YS-110A strobe which you see here.

Frustrated…

Trying to free my aifontriji from jail has been a very frustrating affair. My aifon is still in jail no matter what I tried, except the last resort from my previous post. That is because I have yet to finish downloading the virtual image of OSX. As for the other methods, when I am using redsn0w, it seems to be stuck in the iBoot mode (as seen in the Device Manager) and not getting anywhere. It is as if the bootloader or something is not being read and executed on the device. *sigh* :(   Hmmm…there’s one more thing which I have not tried yet – to use a different computer for redsn0w…

Releasing Keith’s Aifon from Jail

Using redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3

  1. Downgrade to 3.1.3
  2. Upgrade to iOS4 by launching iTunes, hold the Shift key down and click the 'Restore' button.
  3. Select the downloaded IPSW firmware file (iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw)
  4. Click on the 'Choose' button to let iTunes update your iPhone with the required firmware.
  5. Once it has completed, run redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3
  6. Follow step 8 from this guide
  7. It is stuck at "Waiting for reboot" endlessly. Argggggh!

JB Result: Jailed

It is late! OMG! Look at the time! I will need to try another day since there's a lot of files to download. There's also the need to install and setup. :(

My site is now Mobile Device Friendly
