Gorgeous Birthstone Ring

Hi Bloggie,
This week lek lek came home for a visit, bringing with her a gorgeous September birthstone ring designed & made/produced by Hans. A gift from my Mum.

September’s birthstone is the Sapphire, a gorgeous deep blue colour gem stone. A gift of Sapphire represents sincerity and faithfulness.

September Birthstone Poem – the Sapphire

“A maiden born when autumn leaves
Are rustling in September’s breeze,
A Sapphire on her brow should bind;
To bring her joy and peace of mind.”

Named after the Greek word “sapphirus”, meaning blue. Ancient Persians called sapphire the “Celestial Stone.” It was the gem of Apollo, Greek God of Prophesy and was worn by worshippers visiting his shrine in Delphi to seek his help. It was used by ancient Etruscans as far back as the 7th century B.C.

In the Middle Ages, the gem was believed to protect those close to you from harm and also represented loyalty and trust. Medieval priests and kings wore sapphires to symbolize heaven, while commoners thought the gem attracted heavenly blessings.

Sapphires have long been a favorite among priests and kings, who considered them symbolic of wisdom and purity. One of the most famous sapphires rests on the Imperial State Crown, worn by Queen Victoria in 1838. It resides in the British Crown Jewels in the Tower of London. This gem is called the St. Edward’s Sapphire because it once belonged to Edward the Confessor, who wore the stone on a ring during his coronation in 1042.

The healing properties of the September birthstone are reputed to be effective for health problems relating to lowering fevers and inflammation, hearing problems, cancer and burns. The Sapphire is also used to enhance the influences of Venus and banish evil thoughts.

When worn as a ring , they speak of dignity, loyalty, serenity, faith, purity and wisdom. The gorgeous ring is definetly not for everyday wear, only for special occassions and functions….Hahahaha! Given how chor-lor I can be. :blehpig:
