I am back from my safari dive trip. This safari took me ~18-24 hours to reach my destination. I had to travel by land, air and sea to get to Malapascua island located in the Visayan Seas in Philippines. My journey started @ 7.30am in Penang on Nov. 16 and I didn't arrive at my destination until Nov 17 around lunch time! It is a loOooong journey. My first check-out dive was at 4:26p.m. I went to a max depth of 13m with avg depth around 7.6m for a total dive time of 42 minutes. The following day, the dive was at 6 a.m. to go shark diving – to see the Thresher shark. Goodness! On a normal working day, I've not even woken up at that hour yet, except maybe to pee and then go back to sleep. Anyways, no Thresher was seen because it is already quite late based on island time. The Sun is already up & shining very brightly by the time we reach the dive site – Monad Shoal. Lots more details in my dive log.
This safari trip is a learning trip for me both in diving and also my underwater photography – trying to get my brand new strobe to talk to my old Canon Powershot S80 camera (2005 model !!!). I found out that I cannot set my Strobe to TTL if I set my camera to manual mode. My camera is old…time to upgrade to a S95 or G12! 🙂
Oh Yah! I have uploaded my video of the Thresher shark to YouTube. Photos? I'm currently sorting and cropping my photos for uploading. Once I'm done, the photos can be seen here or in my picasa web album.
